When it comes to talking sports, they're the authority. It's Bob Walters and Brett Rosso with Lock Up Sports. And it starts now. Hey, there we go. Bob Walters, Rick Broo from the Brian Gunzel Studios. This is Locked Up Sports. We got a big one for you here today. Yankees lose their seventh straight as Cole gets roughed up out at the stadium. Wanda Frankl may never play another baseball game ever again. Peter Alonso throws away somebody's first major league hit and we're joined again by Brett Rosso, welcome back Brett. What is up? How is Pops? Hey, what's going on? Sorry I've been gone so long and thanks for holding it down, Bob, as always, appreciate I. Do what I. Can. Appreciate it. Dad's doing, uh, really well. Recovering very well. I have had my hands full over here. Um, but between that and work, I haven't been around the last few weeks, but very glad to be back on the, on the show. Um, quick note about my father, Mike Rossel. Lemme tell you, this guy, star Yukon running back, back 19 68, 69, 70, lemme tell you, goes on. Used to play with guys like one of our, uh, Mets favorites. Bobby Valentine used to play against in football, um, coached by Lou Holtz went on. Lou. Holtz was the coach of, of of Yukon. He was one of the assistants at UConn. Oh. Okay. Really? Okay. Yeah. And it was like, man back. Yeah. Inter, I didn't know that either until a random. But that's how the Lou Holts is. Do you wanna know what kind of, what kind of, uh, swag my dad holds over at Yukon. It's 1990, uh, six or maybe nine, late 95. Uh, no. Spring of 96 we go to Yukon for college visit for my brother and Andy Baylock, we're talking, this guy is still like the athletic director, like the head of ucom, my dad's zone. Him since back when he was back there for, we talk to him every month. He goes, I got a special guest gonna take you and show you around campus today. I'm like, all right, cool, cool. We go around, me and my dad, my brother, my brothers getting ready to go to college. So we go in, he walks us into the basketball gym talking about the Yukon. We're at stores, Yukon basketball gym. We walk in and the whole team, you know who's there, the entire U s a women's basketball team getting ready for the 96th Olympics. And you know what they do? Okay, good, good. You know who comes out to show us around campus for the day? And I'm not talking for five minutes, I'm talking show you around campus for an hour. Take you to lunch. Rebecca Lobo. Full uniform. I was just gonna say she, wait, she walked around campus and went to lunch in her full uniform with you guys. Just us, nobody else. Oh, in, in, in what? In the dining hall. We. Go in, she's shooting hoops. I'm hanging. She's like, here's the basket. Or I'm talking, I'm in the basketball arena with a rebe, Rebecca Lobo. And she's like, all right. She shows us around, shows us a few buildings, we go pop in dining hall, grab a quick lunch with a Rebecca, have a great time going back to go win a gold. See you guys later. You get better, better than the wood, than the World Cup. Win the team. But. Even now, they still tell 'em to come out to games. And even after that, lemme tell you, my father's got some pull around there. But even so after that practice squad for the New York Jets. Handoffs from Namath. Lemme tell you, that's why you know people like, you know, you, you like the Giants. What your dad liked the giants your family likes the. Giants. Yeah, pretty much. Were were they giants? They weren't No, no <laugh>, we. Were Jack. No, no that nobody in my family is anywhere near the size to be anything. Giants. Giants, anything. You know, man. No. A kicker. It could be a kick guy. You you had a shot. You had. A shot. I had a shot. I had a shot. I used to make like 40 yard field goals. That's about it. That's about it. But that's. A quick, but so. I mean, last time you that's, listen, we can't wait to see Mike. Mike's gonna be strolling downsville again in a little bit. He's the listen, he is gonna be fine. It's good. Brett saved his life. It was great. We, we got close, we got close to losing Mike, but we got a back finally. Why? Finally figured out why I became a nurse. It was all worth it. <Laugh>. All that education and money. We finally paid off. All that time in jail and everything and all that. Well look. Over. We'll look over. And I was like, that's a guy who's gonna die <laugh>. And. I was like, yeah, listen, none of us. Let's, let's take care of that. And then we did. None of us are getting outta here alive. Um, a hundred percent now. Yeah. You know, it is what it is. So. Yep. When you were, last time you were with us, I mean the Mets were like still a formed team. They were, they were. No, I actually think. I think some of my comments were like, we're about to make a run. But I was also on the, I think we should sell everybody. And if you don't forget, you didn't think there was any chance Scherzer and Verlander were going, this is funny how long, like, we haven't even had this conversation. But. But what they did is they paid everything they paid. They're still paying their salary. The Mets basically paid 200 million for five Mount minor league players. Have you seen what they're doing down there? They're no Bob. I'm telling you, these kids are incredible that they got, lemme tell you, Aun Jr. And Drew Gilbert, drew Gilbert is gonna be playing for the Mets. He's aa right now. He is raking it like three 80 home runs in aa, uh, Binghamton right now. Lemme tell you, the guys they picked up were worth it. Whatever we do with them on our team, traded to somebody else. They are. And that kid's a college player who hits World Series, like he is got swag. That kid's good. Lemme tell you that kid, it's. Just frustrating. It's so frustrating because it's so, I mean, I was watching again. They were, they were having walk off box. They were, they were awful. And like to get rid of them. And now basically we're punting on next year. It's just so, it's so disappointing. It really is. I played back, uh, our shows. We were talking World series, but you had it in your back pocket. It was terrible. I still do. It's coming. <Laugh> now. The Yankees, the Yankees, the Yankee, listen, the Yankees are not, are not much better. The Yankees today lost their seventh straight game to the Red Sox. They got blown out last night. They got blown out again this afternoon, Cole, this afternoon, which is disappointing. Cole, get out there. They need a win. He's the stopper. He's there two stop, stop the bleeding. Like they, like, they needed him today. He gave up a grand slam, a two run home run. Six runs in the, in four innings. So he threw two bad pitches. No, 'cause he loaded the bases. He walked through. He threw two. Yeah. Well, he threw two really bad pitches. Now, you know what Cole has come through for them for, so for last year in the playoffs this year, he's played, he's been a good pitcher this year on what is now a bad team. Um, I don't know, Yankee fans don't wanna admit it, but it, this Yankee team is as bad as it's been. What'd you say? Like 30 years or something like that? The, the, the Yankees have not finished under 500 since 1992. And when that had the bills still had two Super Bowls to lose. Wow. So I mean the Yankee and they're terrible team. The Mets are closer to the wild card than the, than the Yankees are right now. Do you listen, Cole's is Cole. Listen, Cole's in his prime, right? Cole's really like, he's doing everything he was supposed to do for the Yankees he's coming through for. Is he wasting his prime as a Yankee? Has anybody even ever said that? No. In the last. The last 20 years. No. I don't think, I don't think he is because I mean, he went to, they went to the conference, uh, the conference, the, the A l C s last year. They go to the playoffs every year, right? This is gonna be the first. They missed the playoffs three times. Like, uh, 12, 13 and 16 or 12, 14 and 16. He's in the playoffs every year. That's all you can ask for this year. They're terrible. And listen, they're not getting any better. It's not gonna get better from here. That's what I mean is this team is not set up. I mean, I don't know what kind of moves they're gonna make, but they don't look like they're gonna do like the old Steinbrenner stuff. They don't look like they're just gonna go out and power their way. Kind of. Even like Steve Cohen was talking about doing last year. I, I don't, next year may not be better. They'll be always competing for the playoffs. But I think that's the team that they're formulated now as a team. No. They're not gonna be better because you know what? They got judged for 10 years. Stan's getting older. Stan's no good. Volpe is Volpes. Okay. Yeah. You know, they've let vol, one thing with Volpe is they, they've let 'em play every day, which is what something you have to do just to find out how, how somebody is like that. But the Yankees are not getting better. And they proved they're not like the Steinbrenner, they proved it before this. But they proved this year by not doing anything at the trade deadline. They tried to sell you what the Mets did. Remember what the Mets did. Oh, our trade deadline is, we're getting the ground back. We're getting the ground back. And that's how we're getting a top pitcher at the trade deadline. And they tried to sell you that by saying we're getting judged back and we're getting the pitcher back. And, and the bullpen, which has been their best thing going, has not just hasn't been good in the second half, I got torn up on social media for giving the Yankees a c in the bullpen saying they went All right, bullpen. And ever since that they've, they've been terrible. You know what it is. 'cause they don't come through in big spots. They got good numbers and they don't come through good spots. You scouted them out and you called it c Give 'em a c. Nobody, nobody gives me any credit for this stuff. But, and listen, today, the Yankees got slow. This is the death, this is the end of the Yankee season. This is the end of the, the baseball for New York. This series. Yeah. The Red Sox are gonna bury. They're getting buried now. They're seven and a half outta the wild card. They've lost two straight to the Red Sox. They're five games behind the Red Sox. It's. Over. We talked about it. There was a point where there was a point where you had to keep it within like nine games or 10 games. And that was a month ago. And now seven games is like astronomical. Seven games is, and the number of teams you have to leap just to get there is so hard. Seven games. Is way too many. It's way too many. No. If you look at it, it's like very, very difficult. Especially if you're not just, um, a good team underperforming. That's one thing. But if you're just on a mediocre team playing mediocre, you're not, you don't have the firepower that's just gonna show up out nowhere. And the fasting team, okay, go ahead. No, you look at someone like Judge, you look at somebody like saying these guys, they're just, they're not the guys who you think that they are. It's not like you pun you put in a lineup. Their names are still their names, but they're not playing the well. The only reason, the only reason they're anywhere. The only reason they're even seven and a half is because of Judge and Cole. Mm-hmm. 'cause you do have Cole every fifth day. And usually he today was an anomaly. Getting the 60 or 70% of judge I'm saying like you normally would be getting like that full on, especially with support in the lineup and all the other stuff. I mean, you wanna make, you can make judge real good with a better team. You know, once the lineup's a little better and Stanton's hitting. Well, and you know, other guys were playing like they even last year when they were playing really well, remember, look back how good they were last year. This is an incredible drop off. I know. Yeah. They weren't, they weren't great. They were 98 wins. First. Half was one of the best first halfs in all of baseball ever. Like it was incredible. Yes, yes, you're right. It was. And, and Boone Boone still wants to throw Severino out there. Like Boone has said, now I want Severino. I'm gonna keep him in the rotation. I don't know how you keep this guy in the rotation. He is basically, he can't get anybody out in the first inning. And then they even tried. It was hilarious because they tried, okay, listen, the problem's the first inning, he can't get anybody out in the first inning. We're gonna have a starter and we're gonna pitch him in the second inning. The starter got a clean first inning came into the second inning, and what happened? He gave up a double double three run home run and three nothing before he even gets an outs. And he gave six runs to the Orioles before he gets an out. Well, this. Is the same manager that, you know, waited until, uh, Herman's Hangover went away before he let him get into the game. <Laugh>. You know? So he. Yeah, that was the judgment. His judgment isn't sound. But I mean, how do you leave this guy in the rotation? He's got a seven e r a, he, he can't get anybody out. They lose. Like, they get blown out as. As as long as you don't drink a bottle of vodka a day, you're in the rotation. I mean, listen, the Yankee, the Yankees are terrible. The Yankees are terrible. Do you think the Mets finished with a bit a better record than the Yankees? I don't think so. But I mean it's it's it's up to discussion. Yeah. No, they're gonna end up, no, they end up with the exact same terrible record. Yeah. That's how they'll both have equal. It will be like that for New York this year. They'll be like two. They're both gonna be like four games under 500. Five games under 500. And that's what them playing better baseball. Now, as bad as things are for the Yankees and as good as they are for Tampa in that first wild card they're doing okay. Uh, wa they got a problem with shortstop. Wanda Franco has himself a serious problem. He is. He they were, the way the story went was, was there was some tweets. I don't know if the ice haven't been able to find the tweets. I I don't know if the girl made them or if her parents made the tweets or how exactly what went down. But there was some tweets that were out there that basically linked him to an underage girl and they did some digging and it looked like it might be true. They put him on the, the not available list. He didn't make the road trip. And now they're saying that he may never play another game in the major leagues. It, it is starting to look like it happened. What are he doing? Why does he. I don't know. And lemme tell you, when a guy is as good as wa Franco had been, like even we're talking from when he started, for them to say that right away of stuff, like he's never gonna play baseball again. That's when someone instantly knows like they know something's going on. Like, I'm telling you that's exactly like it's, this is like a, um, Trevor Bauer situation. Yeah, yeah. But it, it's Trevor. There's very few times in this world where it's like a instant, see you later. The guy has no chance. We don't care what happens. We'll pay you your entire salary. Or he. May not. It's so good. No, they won't. They won't. Because if he gets, if he gets found not guilty or I mean, if he gets found, I guess it guilty or he gets these charges, it voids the salary. That's. True. No, that's, that is true. But the um, but if you look at like Trevor Bauer, they paid that salary and the guy's out there pitching in Japan, that's where everybody goes. Now he's gonna end up going, uh, over to Japan. They don't care what you do over there. No, I You think they'll take him over in Japan? They took Trevor. Hey Trevor Bower's over there. They'll give a crap. I learned that. I I saw it like he's over there every day, uh, pitching terribly. Yeah. And I saw. <Laugh> and he's just, he's an Instagram fool. Like, I can't stand the guy, but no, it's Faranda Franco. This, it looks like he's out. And like, it's very weird when guys that are that dominant or instantly cut out of the game because you watch all the other guys who have been given second chances over the years for all the things. Think about it. Think about all the domestic. Harmon. Look at Herman on the Yankees. The team hated them. About sexual assaults. Think about all of them have happened Exactly for all of this stuff and that people have all come back from, and so it's something's deep, like big. But did they haven't even had the details haven't even hit the public yet. Like people don't know. I heard today that I read somewhere that it was somewhere like he was 16 and she was 12 when they started the relationship, which is is way outta line. Don't, don't get me wrong. No. It's all, and then. He, and he stopped seeing her until he was 18, but he's married. It's a, it's, it's. A mess. It isn't just, someone mentioned it and they're just going, oh my God, because they mentioned it. We gotta get rid of him. Like, there's some evidence here. No. Yeah. Oh yeah. There's evidence. And now it's leaking out that. Not just of Instagram, I don't know, but it doesn't look good for him. He came out on Instagram and was like, oh, everybody's gonna see that they're all crazy. And it was like, you know. Yeah. No, but that's what everybody says. You know? That's what OJ said. I'm looking for the real killer. Yeah, I know. He's, he's still. Looking for, he's still looking for the real killer. He's, he's. He's trying, you know, but, but this, this is, it's a big story. And you know what? It sucks for Tampa Bay because he is their best player. He is their highest paid player. He's one, he's the one guy that they really went out on the limb for and actually paid. They usually, you know, like Tampa Bay doesn't do that. They gave this guy the boatload of money, the 180, $200 million and then, and it blew up in their face. And now he's gonna be out. And they're, they're not gonna go anywhere in the playoffs without him. He's their best player. He's their best player by far. Good. He's their. Best player. And now. Good. You know what, any of this, I like that. To see that they're finally just dropping the hammer around here and showing you that when certain things happen, see you later. Trevor Bauer. See you later. You're never coming back. You know? Well. What they, well, what they're, I don't. Know what that line is. 'cause outta nowhere. 'cause there's other things I think should be that all that same line. But they don't. It was with the, it was with the Trevor Bauer thing kind of. They kind of let him go. Like they let him play and they let the guys play while they, they used to let them play while they investigated it. Yeah. But it would just get so bad. Oh yeah. And they, they, it would be like, you can't, we can't be kicked off the team until you like convicted. And these guys would be like, it'd be clear that they did it and the teams wouldn't get rid of him and they'd be playing every night. You can't have that. You can't have this guy who was ha who was having a relationship with a 12 year old girl on playing shortstop in in October on national television. You can't, you can't have that. That's the worst thing baseball could ever have. And so they switched it a couple years ago and now you know what? You wait on the sideline while we investigate. Now while we investigate what you gonna say. That gotta say, say things kind of pan out where any, in any way, like, he could pay off the girl and no story comes out, no charges filed. Nothing happens. Someone signing this guy. Yeah, absolutely. I think so. Uh, I think so. I think so. That's a tough one. That's a tough one. I think So. You'd say the same, like, I don't know, like I'm. You, would you, would. You want whatcha are you telling me I I don't know <laugh>, would I, would I say him? No, no, no. What. If he's a mess? What if he's. A mess? I'm telling you no. If he's a met. No, I don't want anything to do with that of my daily having to talk about it. I don't even wanna talk about it beyond today. And I don't wanna talk about it every week of the, oh, remember when Franco and it's gonna be us talking. No, I don't want any of <laugh>. I don't care. I don't care. Drew, you know, gimme Gilbert. Gimme Gilbert down. The minor. We got Lin, Lin do's getting old, you know, Franco's younger. He is coming. He's young up and coming. He can hit, he's got 30 home runs. Yeah. What's his version? But I mean, yeah. Well I'm not, I'm not gonna go with his version of younger is. But what a Yeah, yeah. All right. Send them to the min, so don't send them to the miners. Yeah. But now it, it's, what a shame though. He threw his whole life away. He's 20 C's like these, he's, he's a young superstar making $200 million. He threw it all away. And he's mad. You're guessing he threw his marriage away as well too. I mean, what a what a disaster. What? And he's an idiot. And he's, he deserves whatever he is got coming to him if he did it. And, and it looks like he did it. Listen, if they're been going like this a weekend, we're gonna get. Some details. The details will come out and it's gonna be like a Oh yeah, I see why. Yeah. Yeah. That's, and they know, they already know the details. That's why they're like, they're already cutting ties with 'em. They're cutting ties with him. And I mean, what an idiot. So now did you see last night, Pete Alonzo throw the ball into the crowd? The guy, if you didn't see it, the guy got, uh, he hit a little dribble up like the third base line. The throw was, was wide to first base. Then you gotta, you got a base hit his first major league, hit the umpire, stopped the game, said, Hey, you know, we're gonna switch the balls out. He turns and throws it up into like the 20th row, which. You don't. Not realizing. It never happens in the middle of an inning. Like very rare. I mean, maybe, I guess more now, but you don't usually do that, right? No. You n not in the middle of an inning. The only time they throw it in the crowd is when <laugh>, when they're going like after the inning. Right? Because I sit behind the dugout all the time. You say roll it over or whatever. It's just very rare like that and that, so it's just weird that it happened in that way or he didn't recognize it and he. Threw it like 20 rows up. And what happened was was the girl that caught it didn't want to give it back. I was. Gonna say, I didn't know you're right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And. She guy was getting pressured. They were chanting Give it back, give it back. I don't think she understood really what was going on. Because like, there was a guy that they were getting on the crowd was chanting, give her back the crowd. Let Alonzo hear, hear it the rest of the night. Of course. And <laugh>, he, he felt terrible though. You could, you could see genuinely in the press conference after the game that he, he's like, I'm a terrible person. I'll never, I'll never throw another ball into the crowd again. He was, it was, it was not good. Good. It was, it was so much. Better for the kid. Like the kids first hit would've been like, you know, cool around there. And he got his first and it. Was shaky. It was. Questionable at, but now his first hit's a big deal. Big deal. He. Just. Got up. People know him a little bit now. So, you know what, Pete Lanzo did him a favor. Did you see? He, uh, he, he, he gave him the, um, you know, he gave him the, the Jeter gift basket treatment today. <laugh>. He gave him the signed bat and, uh, what was it? Oh, a bottle of, uh, tequila. The 1942, uh. Tequila. Yeah. And he wrote some kind of in inscription like, Hey, sorry for last night. Which I don't want that, that. That's a Jeter, that's a Jeter thing. Sorry for last night. <Laugh>. Sorry for that. Absolutely. Absolutely. Let's, let's try playing B. <Laugh>. It's crazy <laugh>. It's terrible that, you know, and it's so funny 'cause you're right, you don't throw the ball into the crowd in the middle of an inning. Even if they say, let's switch the ball out, you just kinda soft toss it over into the bucket. You don't throw it to the only person in the, in the stands that doesn't know the underrated rules of. Baseball <laugh>. She didn't want to give it back. She was like, no, no, I don't think so. And she's a Cardinals, a Cardinals fan, which I don't think she understood. I don't think. She, she had the golden ticket. You can literally in that moment say, I know that's nice. Can I have a signed bat? Some gloves? Well, because. The Cardinals gotta get it back. The Cardinals gotta get it back. And. They see it was like the plain clothes guy. He wasn't even like a, the plain clothes <laugh>. He was like, he was like, I got this. It's not guy chasing him on the field. My whole career for this moment. <Laugh>. Yeah. You know, listen. You, they did this on the way out with the ball. I saw it. I saw. But you know, it's cla it's, it's par for the course for the Mets this year is what? It's, it's par for the course. And they're winning games. They won a couple games recently. I got all game. For the game. We gotta send the other team gifts. <Laugh>. Yeah, it's right. I got on last week. I, I got on a couple people. I got on my cousin because people are actually sitting here and the Yankee fans are bad enough with their we're we're still going to the playoffs. Listen it, it's over. And with the Mets, like people, like I see a path to the players. I saw multiple places the September schedule posted. And it's basically, they play the teams in front of them. They play the nationals and then they play the teams that are in front of 'em in the wild card. Like stop. They're like, people don't realize they're gonna have to go. Like they would have to basically they could only lose maybe 10 games all season the rest of the year. Yeah. Like, it's not happening. Nope. It's not happening. And this is the things like this going on. And Alonzo has not had a good year. Now, do you think Alonzo's a problem in the clubhouse? No, I don't think, I don't think that's the case at all. I think this is a, nobody would care at all if they were winning games and they would say it's a great clubhouse and all the other stuff has all had to do with losing. If the team was winning, it would've been great. Chemistry and all the other stuff. And everybody's buddies. The fact that you're losing and having a bad time and everybody's in a bad mood and all that. That's the negative clubhouse. That's anybody, lemme tell you, they're not gonna, it's not gonna be a positive clubhouse and he's not gonna be, I I don't think it's like that. I really. See now the really don't see the two, the two things that I see the, first of all, the, the thing with the unnamed met, first of all, if you're gonna say something, put your, put your name to it. Okay. Stop it. Calling, calling Verlander a diva. Who we all know. Verland is a diva. He's a, he's a big star. Hall of famer, top top player of all time a-list wise. They're all divas. They're all divas. Yeah. They're all divas. All players like that are divas. You don't think, uh, Jeter's a diva and Arod was a diva. They're all divas. It is what it is. If you're winning games don't matter. Like. You said, guys coming in and getting, they're one year, they're getting paid there. They're getting everybody else's whole salary times 10. You know what. I mean? Now here's where I, here's where I think that the, the, there's a problem in the clubhouse, and this is my evidence for it. Last year when McNeil won the batting title, was it Uhlin? Dore said he would buy him a car. If you win the batting title, title, I'll buy you a car. Right. Yeah. It wasn't a big thing. Whatever. Not a big deal. I have heard it now. Now he didn't buy him the car yet. Okay. And I have heard three or four times it brought up like, like McNeil brings it up. Wow. And the fact that he brings it up, he'll be like, oh, and I still didn't get that car. The fact that he brings it up means that he can't, he wants the car and buying the damn car. Like, you have enough money. Buy him a car. You said you would buy the car. Buy the car. Because now it's obviously bothers him because he wouldn't bring, he wouldn't bring it up if he, if it didn't. Do you think that he thought he might get traded at the deadline and he just like held out? He held out with a deadline. Who Caress buy him a damn car. A hundred thousand dollars. I think he has, I think it's the kind of thing that, like it's unspoken McNeil says something to the press, like in passing a jokey whatever. And then there's like one donut left and the buffet and they, and Lindo grabs it and McNeil's like, well, oh yeah, of course you grabbed it. You didn't buy me that damn car. And then it starts a huge fight. And, and I think there's problems in the locker room. They didn't get, they never got along. They are, I. Lost so, I mean Oh yeah. Got back. Yeah. Yeah. They, they've never, burland insurance have never gotten along. So, and who caress, if they get along, they pitch, they're pitch on the same staff who caress. And it's not a big people make it a big deal telling. But I do think there's a problem telling. You. Uh, I I don't. You're right. But those problems come out when you're losing. They don't come out in good times. If the times were good and things were going well, people wouldn't be caring about. And there still would be rifts. There'd be people piss each, piss each other off. You use too much hot water in the shower. What are you doing in the shower? So long on. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Exactly. When you. Throw balls in the stands and now you're taking up all the hot water. Yeah, no, exactly. You're exactly right. That's what happens. It's the clubhouse. These are guys are on planes all day together, betting each other in the back, big money. And some of the guys don't have big money and they gamble and they go, oh, now you owe me 10 grand by the end of the flight. But the guy only makes like 400 K, 600 k and the other guy makes 42 million. Yeah. Well. That's like what Jordan used to do. Lemme tell you, you wanna talk about animosity in the clubhouse. Big money brings breeds animosity in the clubhouse. And if you're not the guys performing and the guys who are about to get contracts. 'cause where I thought you were going with this earlier was that what do you think about this year and having to do with Alonzo's value? Because I loved this year for getting Alonzo's value dumbed down. And that's the. They're really dumb at Daddy's gonna 40, he's gonna 40 home runs is gonna have a hundred. The Mets are here and they're offering them and Alonzo's here, they're not even close. That's why they're looking to trade him. They're not even close. Now. They have him for next year. But Alonzo, listen, he's gonna hit 40 home runs and a hundred rbis. What? And he's the first baseman. What do you want him to do? That's was a good year. He now, he he does not hit. He hits two 15. No, no, no. He's, he's not Matton. I know. Yeah, but listen. Brave's, okay, there's better. Okay, so there's better. Who's locked up forever? Contract. He is locked up forever. But that contract, lemme tell you, Alonzo's, um, I'm with you. I want Alonzo, but I want him first cheap as possible. I don't, I know you say money doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. Every dollar we save on a person is another dollar for a person. Oh wait. But, and I'm all for. You think this year brought his value down. Yeah. Brady, he has 40 home runs. He's got 40 home runs. A hundred rbis. I he's hitting two 15. But everybody hits two 15. Have you seen like the, the major leagues? Nobody gets it. No, no. I'm sorry. That's, that's not good enough. We, we two, uh, I hit 40 home runs or I hit Listen, if you hit 55, I'll give you a shot 50. Like if you're a 50 guy, but he's a, he's a 40 home run. Nimo ISS gonna give you 2022. Lindor's gonna give you third. NI's had a good year. Nimo had a good year, year look had 10, 10 home runs more. They're not home run hitters. And those guys are hitting home runs. Alonzo's gotta hit 50 to be a home run hitter these days. He's a 50 plus and he's not there yet. His average is two 15. I'll give you Yeah. No, I know, I know. I I'm all for I think Alonzo, we got better. He's. A power hit. He's a power hitter. It's a power hit dude. Now. On a good team with a good lineup. Alonzo is the guy you want there. Oh my God. We need the power hitter more than anything. It's more that I don't think he's, he thinks he's worth that monstrous, best, biggest first baseman's contract. Like no, he's not. I don't think he is. And I think this year brings it a little bit down. I don't think it's gonna drop it down to where the Mets think it is. But. But now, but this isn't even his contract year. Next year's his contract year. So next year we'll find out. Yeah. They were talking about extensions last year already. Yeah, he won. They have been in negotiations with him for a long time. They do want him around, but they're using it. And lemme tell you, you start pissing people off with a really low ball numbers and you start talking trade stuff like they are that he may, he, I don't know. I think every, everybody with everybody except for Lindo who was locked up, Alvarez and then Beatty and then a couple of the other kids and Nimo are the only ones that every anyone else could have got trained. You're. Gonna Alonzo like I am all for it. I just don't think he's getting what he thinks he's getting. No, I think he was gonna be the next captain in this team. Now they've only had a couple captains in the, in the thing. Alvarez is the next captain waiting, right? No, no. It's Nimo. No, I think it's Alvarez. I think you're wrong. Brandon Nimo is our next captain. You'll be No, because Nimo is gonna be, when is he gonna be named Captain? He's gonna have to be the next two, two years. He's gonna, he's gonna start to get old two. Two year year. Yeah, but that's fine. You can wear the c on your chest through the championship years. <laugh>. Okay. It's right through the championship years because they need you after that. They're so far away. They've fallen so bad. Remember last year at time? Well, how about an n l E championship? We start there. How about the 21 3? Yeah, yeah. The first game of a double header, a split admission double header. I know. Could you imagine that? Ah, I can't, people actually went back for the second game. So now, okay, so enough baseball. Because remember these teams are terrible. The the, the Jets, Brent, the Jets. You watching hard knocks. Yeah, hard knocks. I mean listen, Dalvin Cook just getting signed. Lemme tell. If you look at the Jets starting offense, it looks incredible on paper. Like, except for their awful offensive line, which is gonna cost them. But I I'm hearing Tom Brady, I'm sorry, Tom Brady is great. Aaron Rogers doing a La Tom Brady trying to coax some people out of retirement to come, uh, be on the offensive line. So don't be surprised if you see someone work their way back into the Jets line. Do you want, do you want Rogers to play it all this post in the preseason? I I I would say no. Probably. I, I know that, and I'm not saying where they usually play their games and uh, is or where the starters, like guys like Kim Veterans get their time in is in these practices versus other teams. Um, and that's where, which they. Canceled what they, which the jets canceled yesterday. That is typically where, you know, you get your reps where you're not gonna get beat up, but you still get to go play versus a real offense and see if you're gonna get picked. Um, but I It's. Not the same though. It's not the same. No, but I think in a first year and my biggest worry, lemme tell you, I do not feel confident. You know, you think I'm gonna be like, oh my God, this team's gonna the Super Bowl, right? No, you can't, you can't As a Jets fan, you know better this is the. Mets, this is the Mets repeating this year. This is, they got everything. And listen, they could do it, they could go 12 and whatever it is this year, 12 and five or they could be, you know, seven and 10, like very easy. Oh, if they're seven and 10, forget it Brett. If they're seven and 10, forget it. You can't be seven and 10. Well. Well one, I mean it all comes down to Rogers has to stay healthy, which you, okay, yes. He typically is a healthy guy. But. You think there's no way if if he stays healthy, there's ever seven and 10, right? No. No, I don't. I I think that, listen, I'm looking at on paper, like this is unbelievable. My biggest problem is you have to gel and everybody has to know this offense and everybody has to be right on the same page. Timing is so difficult in the N F L. I'm talking down to the last second. Dalvin Cook has only worn the Jets uniform for like eight hours and that was at a press conference and you telling eight, nine, you guys are gonna be ready and, uh, on turning corners and where it's gonna be and the right stuff. I have a hard time believing that this is all gonna come together in year one. I have a very, I like that he committed to year two. I think year one is gonna be very difficult. I think year two is gonna bring in the offensive lineman and all the other stuff, but we are one or two injuries on the offensive line. Um, and from really being in trouble. But, but, but, but those running backs, Brie Hall, Dalvin Cook, um, they, lemme tell you if they came, is it the best. Backfield the Jets have ever had? I don't know. I mean, your father, your. Father was in the backfield. Yeah, well. Yeah, I know that <laugh>, that that, so yeah, number two. Okay. But yeah, no, the Curtis Martin and anybody will, I'll take any Jets fan Will any day. But LaDainian Tomlinson, you know, he was. Yeah, I, I agree. But LaDainian Tomlinson was, so is Dalvin Cook is older. He's he's been under decline now for two years. He's no, but there's, I'll give Yes, but that guy can catch passes outta the backfield. That is what he's there for. And when you start cutting down reps, they say this is what they're doing. When you have the young guy who's coming off an injury, so he's gotta have his reps reps cut down. You have Dalvin Cook and his reps cut down. You learn those guys, they're great. But some of 'em are only great up to a certain number of Carries. And they don't, lemme tell you Tony Pollard, they already set, lemme in Dallas, great running back soon as he hits his thirties character. He's terrible. Now, does it, does it worry you at all that New England got, uh, Ezekiel Elliot? No, no, not, no. I wouldn't. I mean, no, they, I, it will bother me until the day I die about Bill Belichick jumping up in the draft, stealing the Jets lineman and giving up like he paid like 10 cents on the dollar for like, he actually overpaid for his guy and for the Jets for one reason to get the Jets. That's what I hate New England for. And that's what's gonna cost us this year. It's that one. Not, not, not the, not the, the fact that that they won or last year that they had that, that punt return with no time left. Oh yeah. To be you guys in a, in a huge game. No. Yeah, no, I'm, I'm a more of a short term thing. I I don't even remember any of those games that ever happened. The last game I remember was, um, uh, who was it? Uh, drew Bledsoe getting knocked down, like on the sideline. He got hurt, he came out, some other new guy came in and that's the last thing I really remember with New England. Yeah. Yeah. <laugh>. Now the, the, the Jets, the Jets of course are are featured on hard, the hard knocks. You watch Hard knocks. Have you? I saw the first one. I didn't see the second one. Yeah, but there was a, the thing that, and you actually gave me a really good answer to this before we started. I always, I was like, because I was watching it and I like it. They, they all seem to be having a good time. I'm like, why did, why would they not wanna do this? Because the Jets already have a full on camera crew. Do you know how many people are in these rooms now? There's like 30 cameramen from different places. One jet, what is it called? Jets One Drive. Jets. Drive or whatever it is. One Jet Drive interviews they have to do. So instead of having practice and watching more film, you know what the Jets are doing? Interviews? No, but I don't think it's bad. I don't, I think it's the fact that they're gonna make money. Stealing the ratings. See, it's two reasons. This is the why. They're still the ratings. I hate it. It's the reason why I hate. It's because I think that's gonna, they need time to gel. Okay. The why, the reason why Jets hate it is because of that's their money. They were supposed to have this big featured thing with Aaron Rogers as their star. And it was, it's a good show. Whole thing. And no, it's a great show and it would've been all over the national broadcast. But guess what? There's a natural h b one that everybody knows with a much cooler announcer. Yeah, it is. And it's bad. Bader Hot Knock is good. Lee Schreiber, who is, if you watch episode two, it's Lee Schreiber showing up in a helicopter as, uh, because Aaron Rogers wants to meet him. Oh, really? So Lee Schreiber is the voice from, and you know him from all the other, from, uh, whatever he is. He's like H B o. He's a big actor, you know? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. No, I know Le Shriver, I'm. Know personally know that I'm saying he shows up. That's whole thing. He shows up in a helicopter and it's him in episode two and Aaron Rogers like, oh. And it's like, but this is the stuff I hate like that literally the Jets took away from their practice for the dumb helicopter to land and for a, for Le Shriver to come up and hour. It's all I I am all for like, cut out all the noise. Let's all get together. We only have so many days. They don't have a very limited amount of time they're about to be playing football. These guys haven't thrown a live pass together In a real anything. No, in a game. In a game. They haven't. And they won't, they won't. They're not gonna play 'em in the pre-season. I, I wouldn't, I don't think I would either because God forbid, God forbid he gets hurt. You're, that's not even your stance in this world. You don't even care about that. Like, you are the guy who's like, they can get hurt anywhere. So that's the, I don't even believe you. You're the guy who. Yeah, but I wouldn't play him. I wouldn't blame him just as a, I'm a Mets fan. I know what it's like now. The Mets are the, that's the biggest disappointment. Is this the biggest disappointment in in in New York sports history? Thess No, but. That's what's gonna happen. Well, the Jets would be worse. The Jets get top. They're not gonna gel. They're not gonna gel. It's gonna be like week four. They're gonna be there like two and two or three and four and then we're in trouble. I'm picking the bill week one. Right. To beat them. That's what. The Jets is gonna save The Jets, you know what's gonna happen? New England falls off this year. And the Bills. The bills. This is gonna be the beginning of the Bills being of uh, what could have been. I'm telling you the bills you were look at. Oh yeah. The Bills missed the chance. I think the. Bills are gonna be the, and, and Josh Allen is not gonna be that guy like he was. And I'm telling you, he's not gonna have that same stuff and I'm, they are gonna fall off. So I actually think those teams are coming back to the pack a little bit. And it's gonna be more of a, um, a race between all teams of, nobody gets it perfectly this year. Nobody's gonna run away with that. A f c. It's gonna be like a, the. Jets are the best team. The Jets the best team. It's gonna come down to one or two possessions in the a f C East in a couple games. Jet Dolphins, um, jets, Patriots Jets. Bills like three possessions are gonna be the difference of the Jets going like 11 and six. Shouldn't it shouldn't be that close. It's gonna be like that. I'm telling you that they're all gonna be mediocre. The jets aren't gonna be jelled. Uh, the bills aren't gonna be as good. Stefan Digs doesn't even want to be there. He hates the place and he doesn't want, they're not, lemme tell you, there's a rift over there. And the Patriots people just keep thinking Bill Belichick. No, the Patriots are no good. He thinks they're just gonna, he's gonna magically just keep pulling stuff out. It's not gonna happen. No, and he can't. And their quarterback so good. They'll. Be on the edge of the playoffs, like I said, but it's not gonna be like that. Um, I. Think it's the Jets and the Dolphins, right? And the Bills. The bills are still good. I I I do. But the bills, I think miss the, I think they could be on the decline this year. I'm. Very worried about the Jets, but I do think that they're going to have a great season. But I I'm never gonna feel comfortable about it. <Laugh>. No, no. You can't feel you're, because you, because I, I don't know how the Mets jet stands. Do it. Seen. It for too long. And, and what I just saw with the Mets is the Mets that are doing well right now. I think I'd be like, we got it. It's gonna be Mets jets. Like I think that would be me right now. Like totally into it. Yeah, just the Mets thing just changed my entire. 'Cause we met because the Met thing came outta left field. Everything. No, the thing came outta left field. No, I totally, you never saw the meth thing coming? I've. Been entirely humbled in my sports. Life. We never. Saw the meth thing coming entirely. I mean, it, it's a disaster. And this would be even, even a bigger disaster. And you're right, I don't think it's gonna gel. I can see them being two and two, but they gotta win this. It's solid so's job could be on the line. They go, they go. I'm telling you, yo, when I look on paper though, nine. And eight, they go, nine and 80 is gonna be fired. If that, well, first of all, jets also have some people coming back on that offensive line. So if it all works out where they get their all pro guys back, two guys. Like if you're talking two big pieces, if they actually come back healthy and people's, and that line puts up a fight and real, and the running backs do such a good job where they're really like nobody knows what's happening. Like they're running the ball, are they gonna pass Play action starts working? This Jets team could be incredible. I don't think so. And the Jets have a good, a real good defense. Real good defense. Look at their receiver. They have everybody and guys who Rogers knows. That's the one thing I like about them gelling is he brought guys in that he trusts and timing and all the other stuff. Um, Randall Cobb, uh, you know, lizard and then he's working with Wilson and all the other guys and it's like, they, it looks like they're having fun in that clubhouse. Lemme tell you, A clubhouse that looks like they're actually friends and buddies and then enjoying, like, hanging out. But if they, they gotta win games just like any clubhouse. Yeah, it's a little too, uh, rosy. The, the, the hard knocks. I, I said, I said I watch Hard Knock, I wanna see the kid get. Cut episode two, no episode twos, they're starting to, they got into the offensive line and it was like, you guys are awful. That's all others. You're the worst offensive line ever. Okay. <laugh> a good offensive line. And that can kill them because that can get Rogers. And like, he called them out on national TV knowing it's on national TV because he wants them to respond. Do you think Sala plays up for the cameras a little bit with his speeches and he. Just called out his offensive line, like the biggest bunch of losers, like I'm telling you, it's like he is, he is. He's like that. Quentin Williams. It made him, it's gonna make him a star because America's now gonna know who he is and you know, he's he's. He'll tell you that smile. He is, he's got it coming. He is so good. And you're gonna see that that kid just runs everybody over. He's incredible. And they have him locked up. Like the greatest thing I've ever, that that is what I'm excited about. Rogers and all the other stuff. Oh, that's what we needed. But this kid is like it and his brother's on the team and he loves being there. And he's in New York, like he's been since the moment he walked up on Draft deck. Like, he was like, he showed up with his like braces on and whatever and he was like, oh, I'm just happy. To be here. Did you watch, do you watch the uh, the Netflix, the, the quarterback documentary? That. Was awesome. Awesome. It was good, right? I thought it was good. I thought it was good. It was. So many different perspectives and I honestly, I love, I was not a Kirk Cousins fan and I just didn't like, like, uh, Mike, you know what? That's what I like to see. He's pretty dull though. He's right. I like. Them's the work ethic. It's the work. Lemme tell you that it, when you look at the different guys, like the Marcus Mariota and how that worked. I didn't like Mariota. I thought Mariota came out bad in that he got benched in the, in the season two. It's. Not gonna be in the N F L in three weeks. No, no, he's not. He. Won't even be in the N F L in three weeks. So now apparently they're asking, they want Daniel Jones to do season two. Oh. So I don't wanna see Daniel Jones. That's, that's the worst. What are we gonna watch a guy eat a bologna sandwich? I'm a Giants fan and I don't want, I think that would be a terrible idea to get, I want, I would want, I I wrote down a couple guys I would want, I want, I wanna, first person I wanna see on there is Deshaun Watson. Oh yeah. I mean, yeah, you just wanna see. And you want. That to be on show that to be on X HBO X. Get in your car and they go like, see what you do after work <laugh>. And they go out with him. That's what you want for Deshaun Watson. Then I want, I want Lamar Jackson. I think that would be good. But I think he might be a mama's boy, right? Because his mom was the thing. And then Kyler Murray, he seems like he's a pretty like, like a partier out there getting out there. But anybody but Daniel Jones would be the last quarterback in the whole league. That I would say I wanna see on that. No. Definitely. Yeah, I don't think so. But as a, as a giant turner, as any fan of any team you want your guy on anything you wanna see, he's. So boring. You know, he's worse than. Eli. You know what, if you look at what it did for Kirk Cousins, like, lemme tell you, same thing. Like if you look at it, it changed people's perception that would never care. Or even look into Kirk Cousins. I like, I was a year away from never hearing about Kirk Cousins away again, a Karen about him. And now all of a sudden, like, I'm like, oh, all right. I think he's a cool guy. Like, I hated him. So when he was doing, was doing his like, you know what, whatever his saying was. Oh yeah, yeah. Oh yeah. How about that? How about that? Right. So how, oh. Whatever. Oh, I'm so. Yeah, yeah, I know what you're talking about. He screamed it at the, the reporters. Right. You know what I like about it? He's like the most, like, he's the guy who has like the regular house and like the regular car and he is just like hanging and like doesn't care about it. And it's like, I was like, holy. He. Does, he does the regular car <laugh>. No, he's just like the most, like, it's not a suit. Like he's got the money and it's not like some, you know, he, he wears his shirt, he wears his wife dresses in like the most $20 shirts and $20 pants. And like, he's like, yeah. You know what, you know, I was. He's not thinking, he's like a total, just, you know, they. All, they were all with high school suit. I Mariota I think, I think he, I think he could've done a little better with his wife. Right. I I, I'm not even. Gonna, I'm <crosstalk>. No, come on, come on. <laugh>. I can't remember. Is there a baby involved? Was there a baby? I think it was a baby baby. I thought she was pregnant, right? Was she pregnant? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Maybe, maybe. That's what I'm saying. Like, you can't do that to him. I think we can go look. At some old Instagram pictures if you want. We can like them. We can. And, and I, I think Mahomes is just as cool as you thought he would be. Right. Mahomes is. Awesome. Oh, no. Well that's, that's, yeah, that's their story. But I've all, it also made me feel, it also made me feel old. 'cause these guys, they're kids, Brett, they're kids. Oh yeah. Like. Like, it made me feel like, like they, they're like 26 years old. They're kids. They, they're just absolute kids. Now, before we get going here, what, um, are the Yankees, are the Yankees finished? Are we done with the Yankees and we done with baseball? They're done. They're both. Well, yeah. The Mets are done. Both are done. Both done right? Absolutely. So, um, I have, I just wanted to, uh, tell you, Brett's not gonna be, oh, you're not gonna be here for the interview right? This week? No, I won't be on Tuesday. No. Okay. But it's gonna air on next week's show. I got Tim Brown. The, the, the book is the Dao of the, of the Backup Catcher. It's a, it's a really good book. It's about, it's about the story of a backup catcher. He played for the Mets, he played for the, the Yankees. He played for a bunch of teams. It's just his story through, it's like a life story and it's like a touching and everything like that. But it's a good book. It also teaches you about catchers and everything like that. So it, it's really good. He's gonna, uh, the, the, the author is a big sports writer. Ken Rosenthal said he's his favorite baseball writer. He was a Yahoo, uh, baseball, national baseball columnist for 13 years. He covered the Yankees dynasty in the late nineties. Then he went and covered the Lakers, Kobe and Shaq Dynasty. He's coming on the show this, uh, next week. So we'll have that. But we'll also, we'll have Brett with us. He just won't be there for the interview. And, uh, that pretty much does it for us. Brett, welcome back. I, I thank you so much. I think we got some rust. We got some rust. But we gotta, we all, we gotta do, we gotta do it together. I gotta get it out there. Yeah, no, I know. That's a, listen, we're ready, we're ready to get this going again. We <laugh>. Come on. We'll tell your friends. We're back, baby. Yeah, this is, we're back. We're back. So, um, I'll see you Tuesday with Mark Man and e as always. But Brett, you don't know Mark Brett? Nope. He's a, he's a character. He's, he's a character. Lemme tell you. No, he's a character. He's got a face for radio, but he is a character and he is funny and, and we like him. And he, and he gives me a hard time. He gives me a hard time about the Mets. Looking. Looking forward to hanging with. <Laugh>. So that does it for us everybody. Thanks for listening. For Brett Raso, I'm Bob Walters. We'll talk to you Tuesday, everybody. See ya. Hey everyone. Bob Walters here. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed the show. Remember, if you want more locked up sports, you can always find us on social media, on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok.
