In John 2: 13-22, Jesus demonstrates his zeal for God. He links this to the destruction of his body and his resurrection. Because God is a jealous and faithful God, He expects our fidelity and faithfulness to Him. In the Old Testament parsha, Phineas was jealous for God, and what he did both made atonement for israel and stopped the plague. Yeshua, Jesus, as both God and man demonstrates both God's jealousy for each of us, and correctly ordered zeal for God. Yeshua links the destruction of the "temple of his body" through the cross to the transforming power of the resurrection. Through our faith in the saving grace of the cross, not only are our sins forgiven, but also our old man is crucified. We are participants in the resurrection and regeneration into one new man in Christ. In Christ, Holy Spirit will work on us, as an expression of God's jealousy, transforming us day by day, mercy by mercy, more and more, into the nature of Yeshua.
