Faith and Trust in God's promises credited as righteousness

We discuss the Abrahamic covenant revealed in the Torah portion Genesis 12-17. God promises to make of Abraham a great nation and that Abraham will be a blessing to all nations because he will reveal the truth of the one God. The LORD promises to give Abraham and his seed the land of his sojourning. In Genesis 15, the LORD promises childless Abraham an heir and that his "seed" shall be as numerous as the stars. Gen 15:6 "And he believed in the LORD; and He (the LORD) counted it to him as righteousness." We discuss how faith, trust that God keeps His promises, is credited to one's account as "righteousness". Faith and trust in God leads to a desire to be obedient. In Gen 17:1-4 " 'I am God Amighty; (El Shaddai)walk before ME,and be thou whole hearted. And I will make MY covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly... 'As for Me, behold,My covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations.'" We discuss the covenant of circumcision and God's covenant with Sarah for the "child of promise". In Romans 4, Paul expounds the New Covenant promise of salvation by grace through faith both for the "circumcision and the uncircumcision". The New Covenant's righteousness is credited through faith in the cross of Yeshua for all who by faith trust in God's promise of forgiveness of sins and salvation through the cross and Yeshua's resurrection and the promise of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
