God reveals His name to Moses: "I AM THAT I AM"

We start the book of Exodus and the great story of Moses reflecting upon the end of Genesis, "what the enemy meant for evil, God uses for good". We reflect upon Gen 15:13 where the LORD says to Abram that his descendants will be 400 years afflicted in a foreign land. At the end of those 400 years, God raises up Moses to lead the Israelites out of bondage. Pharoah intends to kill all the Israelite male babies. According to God's will, Pharoah's daughter adopts Moses, but gives baby Moses to his own Israelite mother to be nurtured. Moses' formative years create an internal conflict between the faith of his mother in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and his education in Pharoah's court regarding Egyptian idolatry. Seeing injustice against an Israelite slave, Moses impulsively kills an Egyptian task master. Moses flees into the desert and lives as a shepherd for 40 years. Then God hears the cry of His people, remembers His covenant, and God acts. God calls Moses to his destiny to deliver His people out of bondage to serve the LORD their God. God's call on Moses is initiated in the burning bush at Mt Sinai. God tells him in Ex 3:8 "Now I have come down to deliver them." Moses reluctance to fulfill his God given role is answered by God, Ex 3:12 "I will be with you." God reveals His name to Moses, Ex 3:14 "I AM THAT I AM."
