Rescue Us From Evil

Rescue Us From Evil

Some actions and attitudes deliberately oppose God and His will. Some distract us from His perfect will and cause damage even when we don't mean to rebel. Jesus wants to deliver everyone from evil.

Series: OTHERS FIRST: RECALCULATING

Speaker: John Pryor

Notes:

We must acknowledge evil. Evil is whatever opposes righteousness, justice, God's perfect plans, or God Himself. Evil questions everything that is fundamentally true and designed to help us understand and “know” God. It includes the evil one, evil spirits, and evil people, organizations, laws, and beliefs.

Genesis 2-3, Matthew 15:1-19, Ephesians 4:31 & 5:11, Galatians 5:19-21, 2 Corinthians 5:10

We must resist temptation. The question, “How can ___ be wrong?” is one of the most dangerous questions we can ask. Like Jesus, we must refuse to justify anything that opposes righteousness, justice, God's perfect plans, or God Himself.

John 17:15 & 8:44, Matthew 4:1-11, Isaiah 5:20,
James 1:13-15

We must ask God to deliver us from evil. We can only “know” good from evil by experience. To escape from evil, we must ask God for help. He guides and provides when we trust and obey.

Ephesians 6:10-20, John 3:16-17 & 10:10

We must pursue righteousness and justice. Righteousness is relationships done God's way. It's the love and unity based on truth and shared purpose that Jesus commanded and prayed for. Justice is whatever creates or restores righteousness.

Lord, I will…
