LIV Tour & US Open Preview with Tom Jacobs

LIV Tour & US Open Preview with Tom Jacobs

In this episode, golf betting expert Tom Jacobs and I discuss the LIV tour and preview the 121st US Open at The Country club in Brookline, Massachusetts. First, we discuss the LIV Tour, which is a rival golf league led by Greg Norman and loads of money from Saudi Arabia. Several big golfers including Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Lee Westwood, and Charl Schwartzel are playing the first LIV event in London. Other big names rumored or committing to play future LIV Tour events include Patrick Reed and Bryson Bryson DeChambeau. Fifteen-time major winner Tiger Woods declined an invitation to join the LIV Tour. We finally shed ourselves away from the LIV Tour and move to Brookline. While this course has not hosted a major since the 1988 US Open, The Country Club hosted the 1999 Ryder Cup and 2013 US Amateur. While courses have become longer, we believe this course will reward accuracy over length. Without some of the length of other Open setups, the golfers will be tested with narrow fairways and small greens. Driving distance will still be important, but accuracy should play a bigger role. Merion and The Olympic Club are two similar layouts that both hosted The US Open in 2012-13. While this course has not hosted a major, some golfers, most notably, Matthew Fitzpatrick, played the 2013 US Amateur here. Tom explain's how Fitz's game and couse familarity will make him popular for bettors and DFS players. I explain how this Gil Hanse design will change the course from 2013. Scottie Scheffler also missed the cut after Big 12 Championship experience at Southern Hills. Tom then explains how Victor Hovland contended in the 2019 US Open after winning the 2018 US Open at Pebble Beach. Onto betting, I start off my favorite bets with Fitz and Collin Morikawa at 28-1. Jordan Spieth and Will Zalatoris at 35-1 intrigue me. I also like Sungjae Im at 50-1 and Bryson at 80-1. Tom likes Daniel Berger Tommy Fleetwood, at Brookline. I remember Tommy'f Final Round 63, which left him one shot behind Brooks Kopeka. Tom is also intrigued by Billy Horschel, who won the Memorial Tournament last week. He also finished in the top-five at Merion - a similar course to Brookline. I test Tom's US Open golf knowledge with a question from the 1988 US Open at Brookline. Despite not playing this year's US Open, Tiger Woods became a billionaire and hopes to play the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews in July. Tom is amazed by Tiger's major domination in how many strokes Tiger won some of his majors in his prime. To end, we both hand out our winning picks. Tom likes Tommy Fleetwood while The Big D likes Rory to win at Brookline.
