- <silence>
- That thing you do in
front of an actual celebrity
that your, your mouth
doesn't work anymore.
Yeah.
- .
- There was one I met that
it was like, she was a, a,
a cast member on a TV show
that I really little
science fiction thing.
And she was hot when I was a
kid. I had such a crush on her.
Oh my God. You got a seatbelt
going on there. Yep. All good.
And I almost said, man, I
had such a crush on you.
'cause when they hear that you,
you're the freak. You know?
You don't wanna say that. So it came out
- Like this sometimes. Sometimes
- I, I literally, it was that
and then she laughed like, okay,
diffused
- .
That's, that's like when
I met Roger Dre just went,
uh, uh, yeah.
I know you are . He, well you're,
- You're sort of in, in
the presence of royalty at
that point. You know, like,
- Well, I was, how do I say
it was, I wasn't expecting
to see, you know,
- I suppose we could probably
introduce the podcast
now. Hi, I am Lewis.
- I'm Alan
- And this is the name Drop podcast.
Welcome to episode one, dry
Run. Um, it's a dry run.
'cause we're just driving around in
- The car.
This light may not change
Right. Where here you're at.
- Well, it's okay. We're talking
to a camera. It's all good.
Right? Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
We're, uh, we're, we're in a neighborhood
where there's a silly, like
stoplight and it's, uh,
- It works half the time. . Yeah. We're
- Half the, I could just make, wait,
- Hold up.
They, they go first and then
- We go Yeah.
There's a left turn across though.
And last week we did a promo.
- Hey, it worked. Oh my God.
- It's great.
- We like, you must like orange cars.
- Alright, we are on
what? Pinola Valley Road
- Here.
Pin Pinot. Yeah. As they
say it's Pinot Pinot.
Or if they call you on
the phone, it's Pinoli.
- Or if you're standing at the
crosswalk, the little thing
that says Pinoli or Pinole Valley Road.
- Yeah. Pin Valley.
- Turn the heater down. Yes. Thank you.
- Craziness.
- Let's just get all
that hot air outta the car for a second.
Wait, we are in here. Nevermind. You'd
- Have to jump out
- Completely.
- You're to get in that
lane to go straight. Take
- Your seatbelt out.
Whack
- Push
- You out the car.
Don't forget the tuck And roll there.
Grandpa
- . Oh. And we gotta introduce Brian.
- We probably ought to do
that eventually, but, uh,
- If it, it wasn't for Brian,
we wouldn't, we wouldn't
have a podcast. Alright.
- Well officially from, from this moment,
- We'd be talking to ourselves.
- Brian, watch for this.
This is where you're gonna
edit something. Okay.
, everybody's got a story about meeting
somebody famous and, uh,
- Or somebody they admire,
- Or somebody they admire.
But, but for now, the, the famous thing is
what we're playing into here.
Um, and I tested the whole thing
where we, where around the,
the table at Thanksgiving,
rather than saying
what we were thankful for, I asked people
to describe who they met was famous.
And that little dynamic
lasted about two hours.
So I know it's gonna
carry this podcast easily.
So with that said, if you have
a story about meeting
somebody famous, send it, uh,
send us an email at, uh,
your Oh, your story of fame.
Shit. I forgot the name.
Name of the says Slow.
It does say slow. I I do
have the, the, the, uh,
email address I made
specifically for this.
And I promise myself I'd
write it down and say it on
- Air.
It'll be on the thing though, right?
- It'll be right about here.
Yeah. And, uh, I will tell you
- It'll be right over my face. Yeah.
- Move it. Just move it
over. Okay, good. That works.
Perfect. Thank you. Thank
you, Brian. Good move.
So anyways, um, having this
idea to do this was born
of these two guys in the
front seat just driving
around town talking.
And then I, I sort of realized
that we sound like a podcast.
'cause the, the, the topics
change with such fluidity
and knowledge or
- A, or a comic duo. You
- Should laugh when I say knowledge. .
So we we're really good at bs, so, yeah.
But hey, it keeps us entertained.
- Hey, all our, all our lies are the truth
though.
- ,
if you say so. Oh, well, my brain
that broke half of my brain .
Thank God I still have a,
something left to drive the car
with a messed up hand.
I'm actually surprised I could shift.
It's pretty good. Um, well,
- You're pretty shifty.
- Uh, true.
I take, I take after all my friends,
which way shall I go Here?
- I can take you to the
neighborhood where Kirk Hammett grew
- Up.
Who is Kirk Hamit? Kirk
- Hammett is the guitar player,
the lead guitar player in Metallica.
- Oh, okay. You think he'd be out
watering his lawn when he got
- There?
No, he doesn't live
here. Oh, he's rich now.
- See that? Oh, he
- Doesn't water.
But his mother, from what I
understand, his mother still lives here.
- He doesn't water his own lawn
- Because my, my wife used
to work at Deza where he went to school.
Right. And he went to school
with my sister Marcy too.
And, uh, and uh,
- And, and,
- Uh, his mother came in one day
to get his transcripts from
when he worked there when he
lived, went to school there.
Yeah. And she was like,
one of those women,
you don't know who I am.
Mm-hmm . , welcome to Charact shows.
And they go, no. And
I'm Kirk Hammett's mom.
And they go, who? But . Exactly.
- I mean, it doesn't
sound like I'm a metal,
a Metallica name.
Well, because I don't
know the band either,
- But there's a lot of
people know Metallica. Well,
- Lemme clarify that.
I know the band. I don't the names
of the people in the band,
and sometimes I'll hear
a song on the radio
and I won't know the band that
is playing the song on the
radio or my phone.
- Yeah, that's, I know, I know.
And you might, you, yeah,
you might like a song.
You know the band, but you
don't know all the members.
- Right. I mean, you're
not that big on a nerd.
- You're not like the Beatles.
Everybody knew, you know,
because there's always, you know,
- Oh, Matthew, mark, John,
- Paul, George and Ringo.
- No, Matthew, mark, Luke,
John, Paul, George, and Ringo. Come on.
- Yeah, that's
- Right. . I went to church once. .
- So, but, uh, the, um, I have a,
I ha I met Kirk Hammond.
- Okay.
- And we have,
- So how did, how did that happen?
- I was at a birthday party
mm-hmm . In San Francisco.
And, uh, and I
have a, I had a friend.
He said, I guess we're still
friends. I haven't seen the guy.
- I had a friend, but he don't move No
Mower
- .
But he, uh, he was in Exodus with
- Kurt.
I know, I know Exodus
- Well, they were both league guitar
players and Exodus. Ooh.
- Baffle of the guitars. And
- The original, original,
if you heard 'em both play mm-hmm .
They both sound alike.
But Tim, Tim went through some
bad times and a lot of drugs.
And he got away from music
and he was in rehab at, um,
at the church where I
was going at the time.
Right. And, uh, and I said,
and he played guitar with the church.
So I, I said, Hey, why don't you come over
and come to my little studio
and you can help me record
some of my music and, uh, .
And he said, no,
I don't do music anymore,
blah, blah, blah, blah.
Mm-hmm . See all these houses
over here on the right.
- Am I making a right or,
- Well, you can make a right here
or up at the next block.
Oh, yeah. But I don't know
where his mother lives,
but she, he lives in
- This neighborhood, in this
- Neighborhood.
This, this is called,
- It's actually a nice neighborhood. This
- Is called Sherwood Forest.
- Are you sure? Yeah. I almost
said, are you shitting me?
- No, that's honest.
- Don't even bleep that.
I think people know shit. Honest
- God's true.
No, you can turn in up
here to the right. Okay.
And go to the neighborhood. Okay. So
- It's a beautiful day
in the neighborhood.
- So where was I? I,
- Greg Hammett, uh,
guitarist sounding alike.
- Yeah. Well, he wa so I,
he was at this party, him
and I, this is the neighborhood.
Okay. He was at this, this,
this, he was at this party
with Lars, who's the drummer.
- I know Lars.
- And, uh, he owes me five bucks.
I didn't know, I, I
didn't wanna talk to Lars.
Uh, but I didn't really
care if I talked to Kirk.
- Well, when you do tell
him he owes me 20 bucks.
- Okay. And, but I walked up to Kirk
and I said, hi Kirk, I'm Alan.
And he goes, and he kind
of gave me this half-ass little handshake.
- Was it limp?
- It was a little limp. Oh my God.
And I almost walked away.
But then I go, you know,
we have a mutual friend.
- And
- He goes, he goes, who? Which way?
Either way. It doesn't matter.
- Robin Hood. Oh, okay.
You weren't kidding.
- You can't get, you
weren't sure Forest Drive.
Uh, so he goes, oh yeah, who's
the friend? I said, Tim Ello.
He goes, oh, wow. Yeah.
So he was like, 'cause you know,
they, they grew up together
and they were in a band together,
and I guess they knew what's the guy? Oh
- Crap, I can't, he
asked me about again, ne
- Better Matter, .
Uh, and so then all of a
sudden we're like buddies
and we start talking about
music and everything else.
And he asked about Tim.
I said, I haven't seen
him in quite a while.
He became a preacher. And, uh, and, uh,
- Uh, was he the son of a preacher man?
- So, yeah. So, no,
his dad was a deacon in
the church, though. That's
- Close enough.
- It'll do. And, and, uh, and so we,
we be we became fast
friends at that moment.
Right. Uh, and,
and later on there was a
picture booth thing there,
and I have, and he was walking
outta the picture booth
and I was walking in Just
- Wait back out, right? Yeah.
- That'll take, take it
right back out. Got it.
And, uh, uh, and so I
- Which way?
Um, that way.
- Well, that'll take you
back where you came from.
- Well, I mean, we're
trying to go someplace.
- Okay. Go that way. Okay, cool. Um, I
- Don't tell you where I'm going. And, uh,
- And so, oh, here we go.
- Left up here, right?
- Yeah. That's damn Road. Got it.
Make a left. Gotcha. And, uh,
- San P Road,
- Uh, God, I keep forgetting where I'm at
because, uh, that direction.
Um, no, but I got him.
I grabbed him, put him in the,
brought him, I said, you
wanna take some pictures?
He said, oh, yeah, crew. It's cool.
So him and I took some
pictures together mm-hmm .
And to end the story, a buddy
of mine is a major Metallica fan.
Mm-hmm . Uh, you know Shaw?
- Oh God. Yes. I know Shaw.
- He has Metallica. Oh,
- He's not watching ,
- Metallica, everything.
Hi Shaw. Hey Shaw. He shit.
Um, uh, and, uh, he, he understands.
- I know he, he'll laugh at
that. It's just the fact that
- We're making fun.
On Monday morning, I went into his work.
He worked in the daycare, and I walked in
and I slapped the picture
down of me and Kirk.
Mm-hmm . And he goes, fuck you, .
- Oh, Sean did that. Yeah.
Oh, that, that's, yeah.
That's a sha response. That's total shots.
- So that's my story
about Kirk Hammond. When,
- When's the last time you saw him?
- That was 13, 14 years ago. No,
- When?
Last time you saw Shaw. Oh,
- Shaw.
Yeah. Uh, a week or so ago. Oh,
- Okay.
- He shows up every once in a
- While. He's still,
- He's still around.
- He keeps coming back. I can't get rid
- Of him.
- .
It's like, he's like a disease.
- What? Tell us one a year Adventures. One
- Of my adventures.
- So you have a different
- No shit there. I was, she was
naked.
- .
- Oh, not that adventure. Okay.
- She, he has different, he's into
comic strip characters. Comic book
- Characters.
Cosplay. Cosplay, paranormal
investigation. Yeah.
Um, I'm a writer. I'm a singer.
A dancer and lover, and a sinner.
- A dancer. .
- You've never seen me dance.
- I
- Thank God you don't
want, you don't wanna see me dance.
I used to be able to
dance. Can't can't dance.
I, I, I used to teach, uh, in
conjunction with a co another,
uh, couple of, uh, dance instructors for,
uh, east Coast. Lindy,
- You used to teach dancing.
- That's right. Yeah. Triple step
- Trips.
Step. I didn't know that about you.
- Um, I, I don't have all
I wish I didn't know that.
Awesome. Ties for no for nothing.
You know, , uh, every
Wednesday night at, uh,
club FX San Jose, 400, 400
South first Street in San Jose,
California, it's where I met my wife.
Um, they had a, a swing dancing night.
And, um, the, the people
who taught the course there,
or the, just the class noticed
that I'd picked stuff up pretty quick.
So they'd point to me and
say, show her how to do this.
Okay, I'll walk over and do that thing.
And, uh, I was like
the ancillary teacher's
assistant, basically.
- Now you're, now you're using big words,
- Ancillary.
- What's the definition?
- Definition of ancillary Google .
- Google.
- No, it's a, it,
it alternative something or other.
So if you have a, a primary objective.
- I got, I got the gist.
- The ancillary objective would
be, you know, like doing the
thing on the way back from the
first objective, whatever,
- Providing support to
the primary activities
or operation of an organization,
system, et cetera. In
- That is our brain in
the car. See, he's Brian.
- He's robbing on, uh, Howard Stern.
- I'm just har I'm just
harnessing the power
of autism from back here.
Okay. , ,
- Autism, and the shape of a phone. .
- Okay. Now tell us, okay,
what are your adventures in life? Um,
- Do you remember what
off the top of your head?
That I bragged about? Once, twice, three
- Times.
You're talking, uh, , uh, that
guy Gunn, what's his name?
- James Gunn. Uh, Sean Gunn, actually.
- Sean Gunn.
- I went to a Comic Con and there he was.
Sean, Sean Gunn played. If
- You ever watch Gilmore Girls, he's Kirk.
- If you ever watch The
Guardians of the Galaxy,
he's k Cracklin, one of
my favorite characters.
Um, he and, um, uh, Michael
Rucker were at a booth.
Michael Rucker plays Yondu
on the guard of the galaxy.
I had to be dressed up as
star Lord when I walked
up to the booth. What's
- His name? Ron Do?
- Ron Yondu. Yondu.
- Yondu. He's the one
that shoots the arrows.
- That's right. Okay. Well,
he whistles 'em around. Okay.
So, uh, he saw me, he's all
son. I'm like, okay, here we go.
So I put, I put on my little act
and we talked a bit, you
know, and got a picture taken.
How old are you, son? I said,
55. Man, you older than me.
That, that's Michael Rucker
all day. Thanks a lot. Yeah.
And, um, and, uh, I saw Shawn there
and, uh, I showed him the,
the little scanner thing I'd made.
It was the first scene of the
movie, of the second movie.
This thing shows up on
camera maybe two seconds.
And I made like six or
eight of these things.
It's uh, uh, you know,
the old, the old, uh,
handheld football games,
you know, when you're a kid.
Oh, yeah. You sit there forever.
Just beep beep beeping away. Yeah. .
Um, I tore the guts out of
like eight of these things
and made this, this particular prop.
And I made it heavy enough.
I put some lead inside of
it and made it weighted.
So I, I had, uh, Sean
sign the back of that.
I also had Michael Rucker
sign the back of that.
And Karen Gillum as well.
One of these days I'm gonna meet Chris
Pratt and he'll sign the back of it.
Or he will try to, 'cause
there's no more room left.
These people have humongous
autographs. It's funny.
- Well, Chris Pratt,
you'd probably want him
to sign your forehead
and get it tattooed. No,
- Actually, I'll bring
the helmet out for that.
I'll grab that. That one. So, uh,
I don't wear the outfit anymore,
but, uh, I still have all
the pieces, so there it is.
I might, I might try to wear the boots
just all by themselves.
It'll be fine. But, um, meeting
people at a con it's sort
of a controlled environment.
They, everyone gets the same amount
of time if you do it right.
And, um, there was a couple
of MythBusters that I, uh,
we were waiting in line to talk to,
and we got to the front of the line
and both of 'em had to get up and run away
and do some like photo booth stuff.
Yeah. And I looked at Noel,
I said, uh, my wife Noel.
And I said, don't we have
tickets to that? Yeah, we do.
We have fast track tickets,
right? Yeah, we do. Great. Cool.
We ran over there, got in
line, and I was like, no.
More than like, three minutes had passed.
And there we are again
with them taking pictures.
No, no, much, not much
of the way of conversation
happening there.
But they did go back to the booth
and we had more conversation there.
Now the, anything new about,
um, Tori Icci is that he is,
he's a humongous kid in
a, in a body. You know.
- Is he the one that died?
- No, he did not. That.
That's, uh, grant Amhara. Right?
- RIP Oh, that was the Asian guy.
- Yeah. Yeah. He's a
that was a, an aneurysm.
Usually when you have an aneurysm,
your last words are, I don't feel so good.
Yeah. And that's it. You're done.
- You wanna turn right this
light, turn at this light.
- Okay. Uh, to be continued on that. This,
- This, this, this
particular, this road has
just been opened. Oh,
- Really?
Oh, it was, it closed out
because of what? Fires and floods
- And, oh, because it had cave in thing.
Oh. And they're in rain. Oh.
I actually washed out. Oh, I
- Could see right there.
Yeah. Like that. It's all,
so this is gonna take us up
to the, uh, that, that
place where the, uh,
- Tilden and then to the wall. The
- The
- Wall.
Okay. The view the wall. Either one.
- Tell them about the wall.
- Oh, uh, okay. Yours through that.
- I'm not, yeah.
- Well, should,
maybe we should tell 'em
about when we get there.
- Okay. Well, I mean
this, I know this much.
Um, I met you not knowing
you were into motorcycles.
Yeah. And, uh,
- I have motorcycles.
- He has plural motorcycles,
triumph being the,
the most favorite brand. Yeah.
- But I don't have a triumph right now.
- And if you could see the
road, I'm sure that, uh,
Brian will give us a, a
good view of the road.
We're on here. . This is, um,
motorcycle heading. This is
- What this is Wildcat Road.
And it is fun. On a motorcycle. Yeah.
- Or, or a bicycle. Yeah. It's like five
- Or six bike, bike coming down.
I watched Guy crash on a bicycle. I,
one day I gave him a ride down the hill.
He was all busted up.
- You know, it's, it's interesting.
You look at, people fall down
on a motorcycle, you're like, oh, shit.
That must have hurt. You'll watch a,
a cyclist go down. You're like, you know,
- That hurt.
Oh, they go down, they go down. Hard,
hard
- .
It's like, son of a bitch.
Whoa. Big truck. Yikes. Whoa.
Yeah. It, it's fun, huh?
Yeah. I, I, I agree. It
- Is fun, .
It's really fun riding up this road.
- I
- Got my, I've gone up this road
hundreds of times. This
- Reminds me of a place in
South San Jose over by Los Gatos
that, uh, when you go up
it, I remember I had a,
I had had a date in a car at one point.
Uh, she, uh, we're talking,
you know, it's dark.
- My first, my first date
was my wife. Oh, I see.
56 years ago. It was up
here. Okay, go ahead.
- So we get to the top
of that particular road.
I forgot the name of it.
Uh, we get to Highway 35.
It, it bumps an high at 35.
And there's the, the rain
we were experiencing was
falling slow, slower.
And she says, oh my God, is it snowing?
And it was, oh yeah, we got outta the car.
It is nothing finer than
listening to the sound of snow.
Just hit the ground. It's a very,
very light sounding thing. The,
- I've been up here and til
we're heading up in Tilden Park.
Mm-hmm . I've been up
here when the rangers
that working here were
- Skiing. Oh my God.
- it one year. It was in the seventies.
It snowed up here a lot. Wow.
Which is very, very unusual.
It doesn't snow in in
northern California.
No, it really doesn't. Not, not
around San Francisco Bay Area
- And around this guy. Here
- Be, you're gonna go back
- .
Yeah. You're on that side.
You're like, oh, that was like .
You're like, oh my God,
we're gonna have a bicycle
- On the weight trail.
Had guy had a butt about
this one. And you Oh God.
- Like, fat butt. I girls, you're gonna
- Get, you're gonna get a
lot of points for that one, .
- Actually, I think you
get negative points if you,
if you damage your car. , everyone
- Has a different, well, that was
probably, that was probably soft.
- No, but the bike itself, you know,
they gonna mess something
that bounce up under my undercarriage. .
I was like, Schwinn here.
- So it's
- Actually pretty up
- Here.
Oh, it's beautiful up
here. Tilden Park's great.
They used to have, they used
to have a Nike missile
base up here. And uh,
- I know Nike makes a lot of
money with their sneakers, but
- They make missiles too.
Not a whole different company. Joking .
In fact, when I was a kid,
you could see 'em blast
off every once in a while.
They were testing. Oh, no way.
Really? Yeah. There's one, there was one
- Right here in the Bay
- Area.
There was, wow. There was
one over in Marin County too.
That's the one where you used
Oh, on the headlands? Yeah.
- Oh, yeah,
- Yeah, yeah. There's a bunch
of gun placements on there.
Oh. From World War II one.
- Oh, they got the, the scissor jack
guns that come up like this.
- And, but the, there was, the
- Guns themselves are gone.
- I'll show you right up here.
There's a turnoff and
you can only walk on it.
But that path leads out to
where the old Nike base we're driving.
I'll tell you my Neil Young story.
- Okay. Let's hear about Neil Young.
- Neil Young. I was backstage,
I think it was at Lollapalooza, which was,
you're talking about the mid nineties.
- You'd be, you'd, I impress
me if you sit Dan The Green.
- No, I never went to
those. I think seventies.
That was all, that was
all metal crap. Was it?
Um, uh, most of it.
And, uh, that's what was popular
then. That was in the eighties.
- Oh, I was talking about the seventies.
- Maybe the seventies. Dr. Dun
- D Rosenberg.
- But, uh, I was backstage.
I was just wandering around by myself.
I love to look at all the stuff.
See that gate up there? Straight. Oh,
- Straight ahead.
- Yeah. That's, you go
walk out there about a
mile. And the Nike base,
- I'm, I do a thing here
real quick. Hold on.
- Okay. This is inspiration.
- This is a view opportunity.
We can get outta the car a little bit.
- And you're going the wrong way. I am
- Going wrong way.
I just park right here in the, uh,
the handicap parking. 'cause that's how
- I'm acting. You're not in the handicap
- Parking.
No. But with this, this Porsche
- Goodbye.
And, and,
- Okay.
Whoops.
- . So I'm just walking around backstage.
- My bad . And,
- Uh, uh, there again, I love
to watch all the behind the
scenes stuff at these shows.
And, uh, here comes
Neil Young with his wife
and his son in a wheelchair.
That is his son. Is his
son had cerebral palsy.
And, uh, stick it right here.
And, uh, uh, so he, he's come
and there's these stairs.
Yeah. And he, and he
says to me, he goes, Hey,
could you help me get
the wheelchair down the
stairs? I said, sure. No problem.
- You knew who he was at
- That point. Oh, yeah.
I knew Neil Young Crosby.
Still young and Nash, you know,
and, uh, uh, or excuse me,
- Crosby, stills Nest,
and Young Crosby still,
- Crosby still nest.
And we, we put this
wheelchair down the stairs,
and just as I'm putting it
down, some of my brothers
and sisters come walking around the corner
and they see me with Neil Young.
And they, and Neil
goes, Hey, thanks a lot.
And I pat him on the
back. I said, no problem.
Neil and I look straight
at my brother and Sister ,
and they're rolling their eyes.
Oh my God. That's Alan .
- You, you, you have a
tendency just to have
that approachable air
about you, , you know, and,
and you use it. Well,
- I'm,
- But you used it the
best in that moment, I think. Yes.
- Just because your,
- Your kid, your,
your, your, your siblings. Yeah.
- It was, it was just a perfect
moment. It was unplanned .
And it's like, you know, I
just go, oh, no problem, Neil.
Like, we were old buddies. .
I met him another time too.
But that was, that's a different story.
- That's another broadcast.
Yeah. This was the, uh,
the intended destination.
The whole time place looks like
a, like a h ho scale, like,
like train set, looking at everything.
- It's uh, Cal Berkeley's
football stadium's right there.
Yep.
- And there's, um,
- You see that
- The building with a green right there.
Is that, is that a grass thing
or is that like a lake? I
- It's, it's, it must be grass,
but it looks like artificial turf.
Yeah. Kind of. But I've
always wondered what that was.
Maybe a soccer field or
- A, it might be on the campus.
- It's all that is. That's
a lot of campus housing
- And uc. Berkeley, right? Yeah,
- Yeah.
Yeah. In fact, this is a Lawrence. This
- Is, yeah, Lawrence Livermore. Yeah.
- No, no, no. That's Lawrence
Hill Hall of Science.
- Like, so, um, yeah. This,
this, this was Harold.
Harold didn't get outta
the way fast enough.
So, um, God bless your soul.
Um, he was actually buying
one of these stop signs.
So both of this is sort
of a twofer right here.
Um, these guys, they
rode the top of the car
for about 25 miles,
and they just finally got
off when I hit about 110.
Um, and he's still alive.
It's about nine lives.
I don't get it. But, uh, yeah.
Um, the girls and the
boys, um, I don't like to,
I don't like to talk
about that school. . Very
- Much .
I have lots of, lots of
stories about different
ele celebrity celebrities,
- Celebrity.
We will get back in the
car and do that then. Okay.
Meanwhile, I think stop
number two would be Treasure
Island. Treasure. I have a,
- My Net. Oh, out where you live?
- My No, no.
- Treasure Island right there.
Are we gonna go to Treasure Island? Yeah.
- Why not? Okay. I mean,
you know, there's no,
- I've, I've never been
to the Treasure Island.
- Dunno if you've never been
out there. I don't think so.
You've gone all the way across the, the,
the Bay Bridge, but never stopped the go.
Okay, we're going, we're going. Okay.
This is, this is the thing. Yeah.
- I could tell you . Uh, are you,
you were saying you met Serena Williams?
- No,
- No. You were asking your,
that was your question. Oh,
- Yeah. You met Serena
- Williams and, uh, I was, uh,
I was at Bottle Rock and I was backstage
and she came up with her, uh,
with her sister.
Not, not Venus, just, she had,
there's five Williams sisters.
Right. And Oh,
- This is the one I thought
you'd stop at over here.
- No. Okay. And, uh, and
so we were talking to her,
but, uh, I was in, I was in Hollywood, uh,
a couple months before, uh,
for a unveiling of a star on,
on, uh, uh, on 30
- Pass,
- Uh, unveiling
of a star on the Hollywood
Walk of Fame kind of thing.
Right. And, uh, uh,
and so she was supposed to be
there and she couldn't make it
because her daughter had
a, a tennis tournament.
- Go figure tennis.
- So, uh, she, I, she came up
and I was talking to
her at, at Bottle Rock.
Yeah. And I,
and I said, oh man, you
missed a lot of fun down at,
uh, down at Hollywood.
She goes, oh, I don't wanna hear it, .
I don't wanna hear it. I
go, well, tell you what,
did your daughter win the tournament?
And she goes, no.
And I said, well, in that case,
we had a really good time in Hollywood .
And she was very nice. Very sweet.
- Well, if you can make 'em
laugh, you know, it's always
- A good thing.
And, uh, well, she, you
know, my mom has had dinner
with her before mm-hmm .
And so, and my mom always
says, she's such a nice lady.
So, uh, it, uh, it was,
it was really cool to meet her.
I wouldn't have known her
from anybody if I would've,
you know, uh, seen her, uh, on the street.
But it just so happened, uh,
she was back there and I,
and she introduced herself,
or somebody introduced me to her.
I can't remember exactly,
but just very, her sister
was really sweet too.
I just, a nice, nice people.
And, uh, it's always nice when
you meet anybody who's nice.
Right. But if they have some kind of fame
or anything when they're not,
actually, I've, the only one
who ever gave a little bit
of attitude was Kurt Hammond.
But then once I got past
his little wall Mm. Uh, and
- He loosen up and become human, and
- Then all of a sudden he
was, you know, I wasn't there.
I wasn't there. I was going, oh God,
I want, I want your autograph.
I never asked anybody for Autograph .
I, my kids asked Neil
Young for an autograph, uh,
one time and he autographed it.
Yeah. And it sat on my
counter for like two weeks.
And, uh, and one day I just said,
nobody gives a shit about this autograph.
You toss it. So I quenched
it up, threw in the garbage .
- It was the moment. I think
they'll cherish the idea. And
- Yeah.
- That's more than the of
- The item.
That's, that's the thing. When you, it's,
I think it's better when you meet
somebody that you don't do that.
Kind of like, I asked Fred Arman
for if I could take a picture with him.
'cause I sit and talked to
him for about a half hour, 40
- Minutes. Yeah. And
that, and that's a memory.
- And, and I said, first
thing I said, you know,
I never do this, but can
I get a picture with you?
And he goes, sure, no
problem. Super nice guy. Go
- Check.
- Right.
- Oh, you know what, actually
- Too late Lane . No,
- It moved over.
Anyway. I thought it was gonna merge.
So we are in Berkeley right
- Now.
Oakland. Oh, I'm pretty
sure we're in Oakland.
- It feels like Berkeley. This
is Berkeley. It smells like Berkeley.
- Is it Berkeley?
- Berkeley, yeah. Butch. That's Berkeley.
Yeah.
- .
- Um, tell us, well, we
said, you said, uh, um,
Emeryville and then Oakland.
We, we, the emeryville
that, that sparked a memory.
'cause uh, after I, and,
and about, I don't know,
60 other people appeared on
that one show where we were,
they were doing myth bus, uh,
myths about zombies and how to kill them.
Um, side note, I got to kill Adam Savage
and Jamie Heinemann on the same day.
Oh really? And they both, the
course got to kill me too,
but I got to kill then first .
It's a memory you get to keep, you know.
- So that was on the show. That
- Was, yeah, definitely.
It's, it's on the volunteer
special season 16. Yeah.
So, uh, and they used me heavily, uh,
because my outfit or whatever.
But, um, having seen the Michael
Jackson's thriller costumes
in person, I kind of nailed my costumes. .
But, uh, well we were, we were there.
We did, everybody meets,
you know, each other
and like, oh, nice to meet you.
And I saw me up and, you know,
can I borrow some makeup, whatever.
And, uh, afterward, I,
uh, we were told not
to tell anybody about
the episode until X date.
And that date was Super Bowl Sunday,
the following Super Bowl Sunday.
So I organized about, um, about 12 of us
to meet up in, in Emeryville
and shamble on over to a food max
and buy food for the,
for, for the homeless
or for a, for a food bank.
Uhhuh . And so we did,
and we did our little walk
and shamble, whatever, and called it this,
this shamble walk, whatever.
You walk twice as many steps
when you walk like that.
'cause you're just going
slow, but you're taking five
different steps, you know, like that.
And on the way to this
place, there was a building
that had a, a common area downstairs
where someone was holding
a wedding reception.
Indian family. Right. Uhhuh .
And there was like three doors
that were open to let air in and out.
'cause you got like a
gazillion people in there.
And here we come. We sh we
walked by the first window
and we heard a door slam behind us. .
We didn't get to the second door
before we saw people running by
and slamming that door too. .
And then the third one
immediately after that
and slammed, Hey, close that door too.
Here they come. It's a zombie apocalypse.
Ah, it's my wedding day. What's going on?
And we're like, ha. Banging
on the glass, you know?
And it's fun, you know? Yeah.
But that was just an ancillary thing.
Uh, I think I'm supposed to
take this San Francisco. Yes.
Okay. . It's hilarious.
'cause we got to the, the food, max
and I instructed everybody pay cash.
Do not take the change.
Just get two items, one
for each hand, because there's a hum.
Doesn't have enough brains
to use a shoving cart.
So we did that. 12 people,
24 items, you know, whatever.
We left the, the store
and shuffled out into the,
the intersection to cross the street.
And on the way there, my wife
encounters a gangster guy,
and he thinks he owns the block.
He's like, yeah, check this bitch out.
And um, she just hissed at him.
Shut him up. , not one
word was spoken after that.
His buddy laughing his
ass off. . Hilarious.
My wife completely disarmed a gangster,
you know, by hissing at him.
So, and she just kept going,
you know, what do you do?
You just keep going. Yeah.
Because we're zombies and
we're dead and whatever.
That's right. So we got
to the next intersection
to make the, make the left.
And there's a woman out there
with a cardboard sign, hungry,
need to feed my children.
Please help. And as I
approached, some of the items
that we zombies bought
were sitting at her feet.
I'm like, that, that's, that's
exactly what I would've done.
He said, we're out here trying
to feed people who are hungry.
Food bank, whatever.
Well, we did it directly.
This woman had like peanut
butter and some bread.
And, and the one that, the thing
that got me the most was
a box of life cereal.
Huh? Life from a dead
guy. . That was hilarious.
I'm like, okay. That, that makes sense.
Actually, I don't, I wanna
be in that lane, don't I?
Yes, I do. Okay. I move over.
This guy's gonna take my
spot behind me. There we go.
Off the Treasure island.
So, um, yeah, we, we,
after we did all that, we shamble back.
And while we were shaming back,
it was a little later in the day,
and car, the traffic was slowing down,
kids hanging out the
windows with their bones
and taking pictures of us.
And then like, shouting at us.
We just kinda going back at
them. And it was a great time.
And I, I, I'm still in touch
with some of the zombies.
Oh yeah. There was a one girl,
uh, one girl in Santa Cruz.
We call her a polka dot polka dot zombie
because she had a black
on white polka dot dress
bow in her hair, pink hair .
And she, she had really good makeup.
But, uh, it's just fun just being a
zombie for the myth busters.
What? Oh, lovely.
There was a promo for the
episode, the following.
That one where they were
doing testing the myth
of standing in line
versus going for a queue.
And, uh, they, they built a
whole store out on, um, um, in,
in a building at a fairgrounds somewhere.
And, um, they had this idea
to have this zombies in their shopping.
Like, like normal people. Yeah.
And Jamie
and Adam walk in, they're
talking, they stop and they look .
And then the, in, in the, in the episode,
they show a panning shot, all
the zombies, like with like,
food in their hands and this and that.
And we all look up at
the same time, the cat.
And they, they cut back
to the, the, uh, Adam
and Jamie, well, time
to take care of this.
And they pull out a bat or whatever,
and they go, go into credits from there.
But it's just kind of fun
being a part of that too,
you know, because we
weren't part of that myth,
but we were part of the intro for it.
- Now you're talking
about lions and cues. Yes.
Uh, I went to a show one
night in Oakland. Mm-hmm .
It was in a club. It was a big club.
And, uh, and there was a lot
of people waiting in line
- By my, uh, my, my, my pass
for, uh, the thing here.
Yeah. It's down there someplace.
A little waver thing. Looks like a
computer. Oh
- Man.
I know what that looks like. Oh,
- I think you got it.
- It's, uh,
- Switch it over to three.
- Uh, quick,
- Quick, quick, quick.
- Okay.
- Hold it up. there.
Now we're gonna get across here for free.
I think this is where
carpool, uh, I'm sorry.
I should have thought I
said something earlier.
- Um, ah, so they were,
anyway, there were a bunch
of my Facebook friends from mm-hmm .
From the UK were there mm-hmm .
And I was talking to 'em
and I said, you guys gonna gimme cuts?
Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no.
And I said, yeah, you're kidding, right?
They go, no, no, no. And in
the UK you don't cut the queue.
And I said, seriously?
They go, yeah, no, no,
you don't cut the queue.
I said, okay. Well, I said,
it doesn't matter anyway.
I gotta pass . And, and uh,
and then all of a sudden one of 'em goes,
you can get in line with
me. And I said, no, that's alright.
- That's convenience. Yeah.
- .
- That's funny.
- That seems, do you know interesting
how this island came to be?
- It's all Dred material.
It was never there before in
1930s. This was all water.
- I know, but do you know
why, how, why they built it?
- Um, I just thought they needed a place
to put all the, uh, the Dred in.
- No, it, it put all the treasure.
No, it was a, the 1939
expo. It was like a Oh,
- Okay.
I thought it was on, I thought it was
on the land over there.
- No, it was that,
that's what they did that
for. I'm gonna see this building.
- This big old Yeah, that's
I plan to turn right there.
Okay. Actually, the, um, I, I
wonder if it's actually open.
It is like, this is
like mid midday midweek,
and I be believe world famous.
Oh, grilled cheese
sandwiches. stop for lunch.
I guess. So what's your
- Name? Mason.
- Mason. I'm Lewis. I'm with
the, uh, the name Drop podcast.
Awesome. And we were out
and about in the Bay Area,
just kind of doing our thing,
talking in the car studio
a a stands for Automobile
and talking about all
the people we've met.
Yeah. And it is just interesting
to have stories pop up like yours.
Yeah. You've met somebody famous.
You wanna tell us? I have. Who
- Is I have, uh, yeah.
So I've, uh, I've met, uh,
Joe Montana, uh, September
of 2023.
Um, he came on as a, as a
partner for us, a couple, uh,
or well, three years ago now.
And, uh, we were doing a, a
special event for, uh, you know,
Safeway and BevMo and Total
Wine and stuff like that.
And, and, uh, you know,
uh, coming out with the,
what we call the Montana
82, um, which is the,
the blend number 2 7 3, which
is actually his, uh, uh,
career, uh, touchdown passes.
And we, uh, actually
proofed it down to 82.
'cause that was the first
year that Montana won a Super
Bowl with the Niners. So
- You wanna tell 'em what you do
for a living now, because Sure.
You bled all that information
out so easily. I do.
- I do. Yeah. What do you do?
So I'm the, uh, national
Merchandising manager
for Gold Bar Whiskey.
Uh, and the, uh, assistant
distiller to, uh,
Monte Paulson, our, our
master distiller. Oh,
- You have it?
Okay. Good. Cool. Um, well,
if, uh, if Monte ever wants
to drop a, drop a name himself, you, you,
you'll know how to get in touch
with us. Sure. I'll give
you my email address.
- Absolutely. He'd love this. Yeah.
Yeah. All right. He's all about
it.
- .
- Great. So any little,
uh, interesting, like facts
or tidbits or kind of
impressions from meeting Joe?
- Um, he's a, he's a, he's
a very well-spoken, uh, guy.
Um, you know, he, he is
really good personality.
Um, and, you know, he's just,
he's just a, he's pleasant
to be around, um, a lot
taller than I thought he
would be. like
- This. Yeah.
- Yeah. , he's a pretty tall,
he, he is a pretty tall guy.
But, uh, all in all, he was
a, he was a, he was a good,
good human, good individual.
Yeah. I mean, he was cool. We
gotta take a picture together.
So that's something that, uh,
that I'll, I'll definitely,
uh, you know, always look back to.
And then, uh, he also
signed a, a bottle of
that original Montana 82 that came out,
uh, that he, that we came out with. So,
- So that's behind glass somewhere.
- That is behind glass somewhere
- House.
Ah, yep. Very good. Yep.
Yeah, we, uh, I, I, I did
a whole bunch of cosplay
and, uh, met a lot of, uh,
just people from movies and
stuff like that mm-hmm .
Like you do. And, uh, having
just that one moment that,
that one thing you can like,
refer to, Hey, I got this.
And you can tell your story
like you just did. Yeah.
Uh, anybody else you've
ever met? Probably not, no,
- Not really. .
I mean, I, I think I
walked out of an elevator
and Owen Wilson and Luke
Wilson were behind me
and they were going to Bob Dylan
and I was gonna see, uh, uh,
Phil Collins when I was 13 years old.
That's, oh my God, that's
about it. And I said, Hey, no,
- That you got to see
him when you were 13.
I did. Yeah. Oh man. Yeah. And he
- Was, that was after, uh, you know, uh,
the, uh, what was it?
Um, uh, wedding Crashers
and all that other stuff.
So that was pretty cool to see him.
And, uh, yeah, he actually
grew up in Dallas where I grew up.
- So, about your age? I met
Robert Mitchum. Oh, sweet.
For the winds of war. I
was just like, you know,
this tall. Yeah. And he's like,
this
- ,
- It is just very, you know,
I don't know what talking
to him at all would've been neat.
Mm-hmm . Yeah. But, uh,
but probably in character.
'cause the, it was the Queen Mary.
- Ah, yes.
- So the whole side
of the ship just turned into a fog
bank inside of three seconds.
Like how did they do that? Yeah. You,
- Yeah.
Oh, uh, uh, uh, Malcolm
McDowell. Oh, Malcolm. Yeah.
I used to work at a, uh, uh, movie theater
and, uh, Mockingbird Station
in Dallas, Texas, Uhhuh.
And uh, he used to come,
I think they were doing
some big press for a movie.
Mm-hmm . Uh, I remember
seeing a, a Clockwork Orange,
uh, a couple years before that.
And so being able to see him was cool.
And I said, Hey, my name's Mason.
And he goes, Mason, that's a good name.
And then walked away. And I
was like, that's very cool.
That's very cool. I was like, okay.
- Alright. Wait, I got one
more for you then. Okay.
Um, I am a musician. Mm-hmm .
I went to a same, I went
to What do you play?
I play guitar Dance. Okay.
We'll talk later. Yeah. .
So anyways, uh, I, I went to a,
a music event down south mm-hmm .
And, um, we're just chatting
and stuff like that.
I was, go to your table,
you get your name on tent,
on the table, whatever, big
10 foot round table mm-hmm .
And I'm sitting there just talking
to the guy next to me, this and that.
And then we start doing
the introductions. Yeah.
And the guy across the
table, he starts talking,
you know, he sounds familiar.
I look over it's Eddie Money. Oh
- My gosh.
- I'm like, you're Eddie Fing money. Oh my
God.
- . That's
- Incredible.
And it got around to me. I
was like, my name's Lewis,
I lead singer for, and he stopped me.
He just cut into me and said,
lead singer. Right, right.
Let everybody else carry the
heavy things like amplifiers.
Haha. Good for you. Good
on you. Good on you. Yeah.
He's one of those guys,
when he tells you a joke,
he'll get this close and give you the,
the, you know Yeah, yeah.
The punchline and come
away with a cigarette. , .
- Oh, I, I do have one more actually.
- Oh, do tell, uh,
- Willie Nelson.
- Ah,
- So my, uh,
- Did you get a contact high?
- Uh, well, I I, I kind of
partake it, uh, in some stuff
with him and kind of hung
out on his tour bus, but
- That's a story.
Yeah.
- . Yeah. I was 17.
It was a, it was a country,
uh, country music. Oh my God.
Uh, a concert that was at
the Smirnoff, uh, center,
which they call it something
else now in Dallas.
Mm-hmm . And so my second cousin, uh,
his name is Pootie Lock,
and he was actually
the, uh, um, he was, uh,
Willie Nelson's road manager for 35 years.
Huh. And so, uh, that was
my, so it was my dad's cousin
and I reached out to him
and he gave me free tickets.
Funny enough, he gave me a
wristband to like allow me
to drink even though I was
17 , which I never used
because I only started
drinking when I was 20.
But, um, but yeah.
And so, yeah, he let me on his tour bus
and he said, Hey, hit this.
And I was like, okay.
And, uh, yeah, , I don't really
remember a lot after that.
This history. Yeah. I have remember
falling asleep on the line, that's for
- Sure. ,
uh, CRE cream's, clear Water Revisited
with the original lead singer.
Mm-hmm . Was playing an event
I was working security for.
Wow. Awesome. And, um,
it was just kinda a boring job telling
cars were to park and this and that.
Mm-hmm . Oh, we have a, we
have a Be Hay Bale on fire,
put that out, whatever.
Yeah. Nighttime comes,
all the security guys are in the same tent
and they pull out, you know, the stuff,
I had never done it before.
Yeah. And it, it was,
it was pretty low gate grade
stuff from what I told.
'cause I got super paranoid. Yeah.
And here I am with a
shirt that says Security .
I'm like, we're gonna
get caught, man. Yeah.
What's going on? Security's
gonna get us. Yeah.
And, and my buddy's like,
just leave the tent.
I walked out. Oh my
- God.
- Oh my God. That's
- So awesome.
So based on that experience,
never again. Yes.
I actually sold, I actually
delivered cannabis. Mm-hmm.
During, during the, the pandemic
best guy to, to deliver it.
Yeah. I'm never gonna steal this .
It's been great talking, getting
Shake. Thank you so much.
Because this one's messed
up. I do remember that. Yeah.
Alright. Thanks a lot
man. Thank you. Appreciate
- It.
- Humiliated.
- Let you get into my car out now.
But at the concert, you
made a, in front of band,
you took my hand and I was
- So, uh, that pretty much concludes
our podcast for the day.
What was the name of this first
- One?
You forgot the name of
the podcast already.
- No, what was the name
of the first episode? Oh,
- This is the Dry Run. Dry Run.
- Dry Run. Dry run. The e the podcast is
- The name Drop Run,
- Name Drop, drop.
So look us up on, uh, Facebook.
- It's the name Dash Drop, podcast,
- Podcast, sorry.
- All of those words together.
- All of it together.
And, uh, what's the, what's the, uh,
- If you want to get your
story on air with us,
please send us an email with
your story in it, at your, uh,
your story of

That's your story of fame.
There are gonna be two Fs right
in a row there. Don't worry.
Spell it all
[email protected].
We're looking forward to it.
- Yeah. And so we had hopeful.
Hopefully you enjoyed it
and we had a good time. Yeah, we did.
- And lots
- Of laughing. So, uh,
and thank you Brian. Thank you Lewis.
- Thank you Alan.
- And thank you Alan.
- You thank yourself .
Someone's gotta do it right.
That's right. Alright, let's
get outta here. Thanks a lot.
Take care.
